In efforts on leaving a lasting legacy beyond the 2010 World Cup FNB has officially unveiled its 4^th artificial pitch in Lawaaikamp community of George.

The FNB artificial pitches programme has a sustainability model that ensures optimal use of these facilities through staging community activities, which include games between soccer clubs and schools, company sport days, sport legends coaching clinics, talent identification and coaching.

Largest makarapa’s in the world

FNB has unveiled two giant makarapas at its head office in a commitment to rally support for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The giant makarapas have been erected on two 11-metre high spheres in the Piazza at FNB Bank City encapsulating the excitement and colour of the tournament ahead of the official kickoff on June 11.

Over 500 metres of steel tubing and more than a 100 litres of paint were used to create the vibrant structures, generating an atmospheric vibe in the inner city ahead of the world's greatest tournament to be held in Africa.

2010 FIFA World Cup legacy brings football fever to Thohoyandou

First National Bank (FNB) officially launched its third artificial football pitch to the community of Thohoyandou in South Africa’s Limpopo province on Sunday, 4th October 2009. The FNB Makwarela Stadium is part of FNB’s artificial pitch initiative which seeks to leave a lasting legacy of sporting infrastructure after the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Shine 2010 chatted to Elizabeth Maepa, CEO of FNB Public Sector Banking and newly elected SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani to discuss how this project will benefit the community of Thohoyandou.
